Media and democracy in Asia: an AMIC compilation
The link between media and democracy is more than casual. It is more often causal. In the context of most developing countries in Asia, the question to be asked is whether free media are a precondition for the development of democracy, or whether the development of democracy will see the emergence of free media. The latter school of thought postulates that development of any democratic society requires unhindered access to the free flow of as much information and as many ideas as possible, while the former school belives taht unfettered media are a hindrance to the peaceful and orderly development of democratic societies.(see full in book...)
